The Queensland State Netball Centre opened its doors in February 2019. The $44.65 million arena is now the home of the Queensland Firebirds, the Brisbane Bullets and RHP Physiotherapy and is managed by Netball Queensland under a Management Agreement with Stadiums Queensland. The 5,000 seat arena has seen over 10 Major events in its first 6 months which include the Queensland Firebirds Home Games, the Harlem Globetrotters and the Volleyball Nations League. The venue has created a reputation for being the court sport mecca and a family, fun and active space. Boasting a versatile design able to accommodate multiple event offerings, the Queensland State Netball Centre delivers opportunities for community, national and international sporting and entertainment events. The arena boast diversification with a portfolio that exists beyond major events with 7 community courts (Netball, Basketball and Volleyball), 3 VIP/Conference Rooms and the HART Sport High Performance Centre.
The General Manager - Venue and Events is an exciting opportunity for a consummate Venue/Facilities and Events professional to lead the strategic, operational and commercial planning and delivery associated with the Queensland State Netball Centre.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working as a key member of the Netball Queensland senior management team, the role will lead the team that delivers a world class venue experience for participants and customers and the overall sustainability of the venue.
The role is responsible for the planning, implementation and management of all aspects of day to day venue operations in line with the Management Agreement including business development, scheduling, event operations and logistics, maintenance management and reporting, food and beverage, venue presentation and financial management and reporting.
To be considered for this role you will have significant experience in leadership roles within stadium, arena or venue management with a detailed understanding of all elements of event delivery. You will be a dynamic, professional and commercially focused leader with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and activities at once whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail, delivering projects and events both on time and on budget.
You must have the ability to think laterally and utilise skills to provide and promote services and programs in a way which respond to the broader strategic plan for netball in Queensland whilst identifying and capitalising on revenue opportunities. The role requires excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships and elicit cooperation from a range of stakeholders, including volunteers.

A background in netball is not required; however, you must have an understanding of the differing needs of clients within an indoor sport environment particularly in relation to netball, basketball and volleyball.
